We provide a safe refuge for garden visitors to eat and drink at our well maintained feed station, with additional water bowls for drinking & bathing. The bird activity can be monitored from an observation window inside the villa. The winter months in particular offer a good variety of visitors, with a large mixed flock of House & Tree Sparrows also joined by species including: Black Redstart, White Wagtail, Common Starling, Magpie, Blackcap, Robin, Chaffinch, Serin, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Sardinian Warbler & Collared Dove. Rarer birds in the garden include the likes of Hoopoe and Cirl Bunting, and fly overs from any of the big raptors can be expected - including Bonelli's Eagle!
Most years we have multiple breeding pairs of Barn Swallows who have made their nest right above the front door! You can relax on the patio and watch these beautiful birds coming and going throughout the spring and summer seasons as they raise their young. In certain years they have reared two broods!
The twilight period around the villa is a very interesting time with the possibility of nocturnal birds. Close to the villa there is a reservoir which is flood lit - attracting moths and insects which make it great for hawking Red-necked Nightjar in spring & summer. Their distinctive call can be heard once they have arrived, around April. The resident Little Owl is frequently heard and seen at dusk around the villa for clients wishing to maximize their bird watching..
