Our aim is to provide you with a comfortable 'home from home' for the duration of your stay. The villa is positioned approximately 5 minutes drive from L'Ampolla and sits on the doorstep of the Ebro Delta in a peaceful rural location in amongst olive groves. This location offers a great compromise between access to the Delta for daytime bird watching itineraries, whilst also being in very close proximity to the resort of L'Ampolla, a typical Mediterranean fishing resort which has an excellent selection of bars & restaurants. The countryside location of our villa gives you excellent opportunities to see many species during your bird watching holidays. We have set up bird feeders and water trays around our olive trees to attract a large range of garden visitors. Excellent photographs can be achieved from our top level observation point which over looks the feeding station. Spending time around the garden early morning before we head out on our birding tour can be extremely rewarding, with some of the most spectacular varieties like Bee-eater, Hoopoe and Golden Oriole all likely!
The big raptors of Spain have all been spotted with regularity from the villa as they patrol the countryside in search of prey. Rare Bonelli's Eagle has been viewed on a number of occasions, with more common varieties such as Short-toed Eagle, Booted Eagle and Buzzard quite frequent. Bonus sightings can easily occur at the villa when you're not even out on our bird watching tours!
The twilight period around the villa is a very interesting time with the possibility of nocturnal birds. Close to the villa there is a reservoir which is flood lit - attracting moths and insects which make it great for hawking Nightjar and the rarer Red-necked Nightjar in summer. Little Owl is frequently heard and seen at dusk around the villa for clients wishing to maximize their bird watching..
